Before Go Live

All projects begin in Development status, where you can build and test your forms. When you are ready to collect real data, you will move the project to Production, which adds safeguards to protect data integrity.

The guidance below outlines key steps to complete before going live.

Data Management Tips

  1. Testing
    1. Test thoroughly: This includes asking a variety of people with different roles on your project to test. Test functionality and accuracy of all data collection instruments and events, calculated fields, field ranges, branching logic, survey invitations, alerts, randomization, etc.

  1. Tagging Identifiers
    1. Be sure to tag fields that contain Personally Identifiable Information (PII).  Tagging fields with PII will make it easier to identify, control, and protect identifiers. You can modify an end-user’s ability to view and export tagged identifiers in User Rights.  You will also see an option to remove identifiers in User Rights.

  1. Move from Test to Production
    • When you have finished building your project and before collecting real data, move your project from development to production. Production projects have built-in safeguards that reduce the risk of data loss. Once a project is moved to production, changes that have the potential to alter data will be reviewed and approved by a REDCap administrator.
